No more squawking sea gulls

If you have been down to Strand beach you might have noticed the strange silence from the sea gulls.  It is because my very brave 3 year old went down yesterday and threw all her dummies to the gulls along with some bread.  The gulls need the dummies for all the baby birds.  My dad, her beloved Pops, likes to tell Fifi she can have her dummy forever but he is a very indulgent grandpa.  She may have her blankie forever but the dummy was driving me crazy.  The amount of times I have to say….take your dummy out, I can’t hear you, is just way too many!

Afterwards we went down to Toys R us to buy a big girl present.  Several times during the day she asked for it back but I remained strong.  She didn’t nap and would normally last till 6.30pm max.  Because no suck-suck dummy, she stayed awake till 8.40pm and I had to cuddle with her until she passed out.  Poor little sausage!

Our night was a little hairy and I look approximately double my age this morning.  This morning she woke up at 5.30 and says…. The seagulls are sooo happy. Cute huh!

At 3 years and 2 months she has had a good long time of sucking that beloved dummy.  I am trusting by Wednesday she will no longer be missing it and I just hope I won’t have replaced it with any other habit. Hard when our babies get big hey! Poor Fifi, poor Mama.

Here are some pics of the great event and our dummies just waiting for the gulls to swoop down and collect.  For the green folk out there don’t be concerned with the littering aspect.  Daddy went back while I was strapping them in the car to collect the dummies and has hidden them away from desperate little eyes.

We just got rid of Tau's dummies just a month or so ago. Realized that he was at the point where we could take them away without him really noticing too much. We knew if we waited it would be a battle (very stubborn boy ... stubborn parents, so what do you expect?). It took a couple nights of fussing but now he's forgotten about them all together :-)

aaaawww thats such a cool idea!!! i do hope she'll get over missing them soon!

I am so glad you didn't do what Ian's sister did, her daughter was 6 before she stopped sucking a dummy - frightful! She stopped just before she started school.

She had lots of excuses why the kid needed it, (including a divorce that had happened 4 years earlier) but really!!

You go Fifi - what a good girl!!

love it! Simply a great idea!! We still have the 'binkie' but it's real hit and miss. The bad part is his sister uses one at nite. He likes to crawl in her crib at any time during the day and get them. He'll be 3 in december. He does still take naps with out it and goes to bed without it. But in the car he likes it and he mine as well have it b/c his sister hands him hers.
