With only 18 days to go, I think we need to have a pre birthday chat. I tried to chat to my 2 sisters last week concerning this momentous occasion but they selfishly took care of the needs of their young kids instead of discussing suitable gift ides.
I LOVE my birthday. My mom used to put our presents next to our bed and I loved to imagine faeries dropping off gifts in the night time just waiting for me to unwrap them. My love language is gifts and quality time. My natural ‘snoepness’ or inability to spend lots of money on anything frivolous, means I don’t like expensive gifts. (This year is a grand exception as I am getting my board!!!)
I stress about how much something costs and what we could rather do with the money. Gary loves buying expensive gifts so we have met in the middle where I try and be gracious and not calculate how much money he spent and he finally understands I don’t want a Prada bag, Louis Vuitton piece of luggage or Mont Blanc pen. Colleen have I spelled these things correctly? After 5 years of being married, Gary has got a handle on the gift thing. He knows to help the kids choose me something small and sweet and help them wrap it and make the card. He knows to get me something girly and special but not too expensive and not too practical. He also has to wrap the gift and may not buy it the night before. Flowers are always good, cards are nice but not a necessity.
So, what do you buy for the girl who loves
prezzies and sentimental stuff but not flashy or label stuff???. Let me
help you along my beloved friends and family:
(I know some of these
seem a little expensive this year so join another one of my hundreds of friends
and go halvies or 3 of you.)
OK……..
Wax and comb for my board (a good cheapie prezzie so maybe
the kids)
Board bag for 7.5ft board (About R300 from Natural Energy so
get a mate to come in with you)
Shorty wetsuit size Large (Reef has a lady shortie for R415
so THREE of you can club in!)
Pedicure for these dodgy feet
Pretty broeks/ knickers in size Medium. (Not G-strings or boy shorts and no bras, I
have a kazillion bras)
Pretty nightie in size Medium
Book voucher
Woolies voucher
Book on mosaics
Um, I can’t think of anything else so let’s move onto what we are going to do on the fabulous 9th of April when I am 37 which is certainly not 40. I guess it is a bit of an arb birthday so not a real party. Last year I did nothing for my birthday which made me feel miserable so not that either. I think it will have to start with a surf day with my buddies followed by a bottle or 5 of champers and some croissants down at the beach. Then off to have my nasty roots lightened and my frizzy mop blow-dried sleek and straight.
3pm will need to be tea and cake with my church girlfriends
and 8.00pm out for dinner with all my close BF’s and their husbands and hopefully sister and mom too. Self indulgent I know but it is the one day
of the year when we are allowed and even expected to self indulge. After that it is just 5 days till my US trip!!! Thinking about that makes me all
nervous so I am going to postpone that worry and go off to eat another Easter
egg. I hope you all had a blessed Easter
and ate masses of chocolate!
Happy Easter, Piglet! He is risen!

i love birthdays too- and once in a blue moon the members of my family are allowed to make a wishlist of everything they'd really love to have. then they mail it to everyone and we buy gifts from the list. the birthday celebrant doesn't know who's buying what- but the look on the person's face as they open gifts and get things they REALLY want is priceless!
and i love my birthday too!
